Discovery album released Hello Friends! I’m happy to announce the release of the Discovery album. The response to it via iTunes has been fantastic so it has become an official album. It is more of a compilation of the tracks put together in the last few years. From my store it is Name your Price with a $4 minimum. I’ve also engaged in a promotional compain to college and community radio across North America. So far I’ve been able to place a few songs into rotation at a few stations Care to help? If you have suggestions for stations or know anyone in radio please let me know and I can provide a copy of the album. Every little bit helps!     Fetal Pulse: Cityscapes  The Fetal Pulse album is now out as well. 10- tracks including Revelation, Conception, and the title track Cityscapes. Promotion is going well with several placements in radio. Again if you care to help be in touch   New Music? I’ve been receiving a lost of emails,  and messages regarding new music.  ”Pedro, do you have a new single coming soon?“. And all I can say is Yes. The definition off soon though may vary I never expected for the Fetal Pulse project to happen, it just did. Between it and the time it takes to package the album and promote it, it has put the creation of new music on the back burner a little. The good news is that just last night the guitar was picked up again and a few vocal tracks were recorded The demo I posted tentatively titled “For Love” is still on my target list. The promotion is for both the Fetal Pulse album Cityscapes and the new Pedro Costa compilation album Discovery. It’s a very nerve racking experience as you invest money and time with no real guaranteed results. But such is the nature of the business side.

Normally even if something happens you have to follow up with the station music directors and hope for an answer. Yesterday something different happened. I was contacted by the music director from a radio station here in Ontario and told my song Fooled Again? was going to be added to their playlist

It was a fantastic way to start the week and gave me hope and encouragement to keep pushing myself in the not so fun task of promotion. I love the making of the music, not so much the tedious yet needed task of promotion. If only I had a promoter to help me out. Any takers?

Minimizing spread

If you were one to keep track of my web presence over the last few years you would have seen the music popping up in every site imaginable: Last.fm, myspace.com, thesixtyone.com, reverbnation.com, etc, etc, etc. It was getting out of hand trying to understand the dynamics of each site and making it fit with what i expected my audience to want to see. Now lets be honest my audience is not the same as U2. So how can I better keep the audience, I do have, informed? – less spread!
I’ve gone ahead and deleted my pages at several sites with likely a few more to go.

Communication

The idea is to centralize updates @ pedrocosta.com. Utilizing the main social networks, facebook and twitter, to help deliver news to those that like up to the minute updates. I want to continue to use the mailing list / newsletter as well. But, with email people don’t want to get bombarded with emails all the time. So I will use it sporadicly. This will be the approach going forward, lets see how it goes.

Actual Music

One the Alt-Rock front I have been working on a few songs at the same time. Really waiting on the muse to tell me what to do next with each of them. That muse can be pretty elusive sometimes. One demo that’s getting close is this one.

For Love (demo) by Pedro Costa

For months I’ve had just two verses and chorus. Waiting for the 3rd verse to come to me. It finally did last week…phew! I’m enjoying how this one is coming together. Typical Pedro Costa style and closer to the raw emotion of The Light.   Production needs more work now and the vocals lines will have to be finalized stylistically. There are a few other ideas including one of the first songs I’ve ever written called The Arrival. I recently posted a sample of it on youtube:

As always, I’ve been working on bits and pieces of collaborations, remixes, etc.

The Fetal Pulse project

Last but not least I have to mention the electronic project Fetal Pulse
After the success of Fooled Again? on CBC radio and radio 3 I felt compelled to continue to explore my electronic ideas.
I felt strongly though that I couldn’t continue to include purely electronic tracks in my Alt-Rock Pedro Costa project.
So Fetal Pulse was born.

I’m happy to say that out of all the electronic ideas that had accumulated over the last few years I’ve been able to complete an LPs worth of music
If a month ago someone told me I’d be doing an electronic record in my lifetime I would have laughed. But here we are! Life is full of surprises

“I’m going to pump up this podcast with a little electronica, something I don’t play enough of, frankly. Pedro Costa is a North Bay recording artist who makes all his stuff available for FREE

When I told him I wanted to play Fooled Again on the radio he wrote to tell me he “always had a passion for songwriting but it became a serious part-time activity for me late in 2008.”
Last year one of his songs “The Light” was discovered by national radio station Trojka in Poland (it’s kind of like the polish CBC). The song made it to #11 on their famous popular vote chart and made the top 100 for 2009. Instead of hoarding his music Pedro releases his songs as he creates them, working towards a full length album.

As President Obama goes through the ringer for not doing anything right regarding the Gulf of Mexico, I keep thinking about how George Bush would have reacted if it had happened under his watch… And then I thought: I need to make that Pedro Costa song my Track of the Day!

Amanda Putz the producer or Bandwidth on CBC radio stumbled upon “Fooled Again?” and will be featuring it on her show Bandwidth on Saturday June 5th, 5-6PM. This show originates in Ottawa but is broadcast across Ontario on CBC radio One.

This will be my biggest feature thus far in the Canadian market. In both Poland and Portugal my music has been played nationally on Trojka and Rádio Renascença respectively.
